Maintenance & Troubleshooting

Signs of Wear & Troubleshooting

  • Signs you might need to replace one of your vehicle's connectors or sockets are:
    • Cracked, chipped, or broken casing.
    • Connector is contaminated with dirt, oil, or other debris.
    • Broken or spliced wires or wire core.
    • Voltage drop or loss.
    • Inaccurate reading on any gauges.
    • Check engine light is on.

Good Maintenance Practices

  • Visually inspect sockets and socket assemblies regularly for signs of wear. You can also have the sockets and socket assemblies tested by your service technician for opens, shorts, and proper factory specified resistance with an ohmmeter.
  • Terminal Installation:
    • Step 1: Align the terminal and pull the wire from the back of the connector in order to seat the terminal.
    • Step 2: If necessary, cut the new wire to proper length and splice with existing circuit.
    • Step 3: If the connector is outside of the passenger compartment, apply dielectric grease to the connector.
    • Step 4: Install the TPA, CPA and/or the secondary locks.
