Good Maintenance Practices

  • Remove the oil filler cap by twisting it counterclockwise and removing it from the top of the engine.
  • Inspect the oil filler cap mating o-ring and/or mating surface for any cracks or splitting.
  • A cracked, worn, or split oil filler cap can cause debris and/or moisture to enter the engine.
  • A poor sealing cap can also cause a check engine light on OBDII vehicles (1996 and later).
