Signs of Wear & Troubleshooting
- Visible component wear: cracks, cuts, or gouges in your vehicle's bellows are all signs that you should consider replacing your vehicle's rack and pinion bellows.
Good Maintenance Practices
- Inspect or have your bellows inspected for signs of wear. Exposure to harsh conditions such as uneven terrain, severe weather, or large temperature changes can all take their toll on the integrity of your rack and pinion bellows, causing wear and even failure. As your bellows wear, your vehicle's steering system is exposed to water and other contaminants from the road, leading to water and dirt accumulation and degradation of the system. Inspect your rack and pinion bellows to help detect wear before it becomes a major problem.
- Installing new steering rack bellows can interfere with the alignment of your vehicle. Perform a full four-wheel vehicle alignment after any rack and pinion bellow replacement.
