ACDelco Traditional (Universal) ‘Yellow’ Coolant is a high-boiling, non-evaporating, silicate free and phosphate free coolant/antifreeze that contains additional chemical components to protect against rust and corrosion. It can be used with low- or high-opening thermostats, at high altitudes, with diesel applications when Supplemental Coolant Additives (SCAs) are used, and vehicles where a long life coolant/antifreeze is wanted EXCEPT medium duty trucks. Vehicles that use Dex-cool and are still under warranty cannot use this product and maintain warranty coverage. ACDelco Traditional (Universal) ‘Yellow’ Coolant Concentrate mixes perfectly with water, flows freely, and transfers heat efficiently while protecting your engines aluminum components. The undiluted formula of ACDelco Traditional (Universal) ‘Yellow’ Coolant Concentrate means that the user can customize the concentrations of water to coolant for optimum performance in a range of environments.

A: No, coolant color can no longer be used to determine the correct product to add to your system because coolant suppliers no longer have common product color standards. Instead, determine what is the correct type or specification of the product you require and purchase the product with this correct specification.

Q: Is there a specific type of coolant I should use in my vehicle?
A: Yes. See your owner's manual or service guide for information regarding your vehicle's coolant/antifreeze requirements. If coolant types or technologies are mixed you will not get the full protection of the added product.

Q: Do I have to change my vehicle's coolant?
A: Yes. Your owner's manual or service guide will provide more information regarding vehicle-specific maintenance intervals.

Q: Is it okay to use ACDelco Traditional (Universal) Coolant in my engine if it requires Dex-Cool?
A: No. Dex-Cool has unique components to protect your cooling system. Traditional (Universal) coolant is not approved for use in vehicles that require Dex-Cool that are still under warranty.

  • Your engine overheating could be a sign of:
    • Low levels of engine coolant
    • Problems with coolant flow
    • Incorrect concentrations of water to coolant

Good Maintenance Practices

  • This coolant/antifreeze is in its concentrated form and needs to be diluted with water prior to use. Mix the coolant to the approved mixture which is traditionally a 50/50 mix. Use clean drinking water to dilute as impurities in the water can cause a reaction to the coolant and harm the cooling system. Deionized water is recommended.
  • Keep your cooling system full with the recommended amount of coolant. See your owner's manual for information regarding individual vehicle coolant type and fill amounts.
  • Eliminate all air that could be trapped in the cooling systems as it causes poor heater core performance and potentially can cause premature failure.
  • Maintain the correct cooling system pressure as indicated by your vehicle's manufacturer, as additional pressure increases the coolant boiling point.
  • Change the coolant/antifreeze at the frequency recommended in your owner's manual.
