ACDelco Professional Upper Molded Heater Hose 18314L

ACDelco Professional, premium aftermarket Molded Heater Hoses are specially designed, factory-molded hoses to fit today’s smaller, tighter-fitting engine compartments. The hoses are GM OE style, meaning they are molded into the GM Original Equipment style and shape. The hoses are composed of a proprietary blend of EPDM rubber, which is a superior blend of synthetic rubber that is more pliable, ensures a longer hose life, and helps resist electrochemical degradation (ECD), the leading cause of hose failure. ACDelco Professional Molded Heater Hoses are temperature rated from -40 degrees Fahrenheit to 275 degrees Fahrenheit (-40 degrees Celsius to 135 degrees Celsius) and can be used for coolant, water, and air applications and are also approved for Marine applications. Do not use for fuel or oil transfer applications. These premium aftermarket replacement molded heater hoses are manufactured to meet your expectations for fit, form, and function.

Q: Can an automotive hose detach during use?
A: Yes, make sure the hose clamps are screwed on tightly when installing.

Q: Can an automotive hose freeze in the winter?
A: Yes - when there's water in the hose. That's why it's important to follow the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation on the use of engine coolant.

Q: Can I use the same automotive hose for multiple uses?
A: No, use the hose in the way it's listed in the ACDelco belts and hoses catalog.

Q: Will I know when it is time to replace an automotive hose?
A: Yes, this requires inspection, though. When the engine is cool, squeeze the hoses with your thumb and forefinger near the clamps. Feel for soft or mushy spots. A good hose will have a firm yet pliant feel. Also, Inspect for cracks, nicks, bulges (usually while hot), or a collapsed section in the hose and oil contamination, or fraying near the connection points.

Q: Are there steps I can take to ensure a longer automotive hose life?
A: No

Q: Will a worn automotive hose affect gas mileage?
A: No

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

Signs of Wear & Troubleshooting

  • Signs of electrochemical degradation include voids, cracks, or weak spots on the inside of the hose.
  • Signs of internal heat damage include slight swelling of the hose cover.
  • Signs of external heat damage include hardening or cracking of the hose cover.
  • Other signs of wear include oil damage, abrasion damage, brittleness, lack of heat/cooling within the cabin, ozone damage, and leakage of the hose.

Good Maintenance Practices

  • Examine hoses every 12 months. Look for leaks, cracks, or rot. Replace when showing signs of wear.
  • Tighten any loose clamps. Replace clamps when replacing hoses.
  • Have cooling system inspected immediately if instrument panel-mounted temperature gauge indicates engine overheating.
  • Periodically remove bugs, leaves, and other debris from the front of the radiator. They can block airflow and substantially reduce cooling efficiency.
  • Though electrochemical degradation occurs from the inside out, you can feel for voids, cracks, or weak spots. Squeeze the hose with your thumb and two or three fingers. If you're not sure, remove the hose and check it visually.
