Don’t bother repowering your trusty Big-Block-powered truck with a rebuild or reconditioned used engine. The HT502 crate engine is an affordable alternative with more power and greater durability, including a whopping 541 lb.-ft. of trailer-tugging torque. That’s more than the factory ever offered and more than you’ll get with a stock-type rebuild. It is uniquely suited to pre-1978 trucks, but is adaptable to a variety of applications, and it’s built with a brand-new, latest-generation block casting with four-bolt main caps. An all-forged rotating assembly delivers exceptional strength and durability, while a mild 8.75:1 compression ratio is suitable for regular gasoline at all altitudes and engine loads. The assembly comes with the heads and a balancer installed. An induction system, ignition, starter, water pump and other accessories are required to finish the engine. All necessary components are available from Chevrolet Performance.

Ive got this 502HT engine in a 1985 K30 flatbed truck, it originally had a 454 and did well for a smog engine. This engine is probably the best engine you can put in a truck that you tow and pull local with.

Yes its terrible on fuel, I average 7-9 mpg with the 4bbl carb sm465 and 4.11 gears. ive GVWR on the scales at 22,000 lb with a dual tandem trailer. I know it was way over loaded for the chassis but it did very well. I know ls swaps are the craze these days but my truck will out pull a 6.0 2500 truck and get about the same mileage loaded.

Id highly recommend this engine for the towing truck or off road driver that didnt need the insanely expensive new diesel truck with they are way overpriced and when they break down i could nearly buy a whole new engine for the repairs associated with any new big 3 diesel truck!

it drops in place of a 454 with no mods other than you must have an electric fuel pump and the proper flywheel or flexplate because this 502 uses a specific counter balance. order it from GM performance or here on sd parts so you dont get the wrong part!

and upgrade to the urethane engine mounts too, the replacments from the part store are to cheaply made for any big block engine I tried the part store junk and they were like jello.
