Please take the time to read about each category of lobe designs and consider your personal engine; your engine components, your cylinder head capabilities, driving requirements, RPM range, etc. These are just a few of the primary items to take into consideration when ordering a camshaft. 

The Lobe Series are numbered One thru Eight; as you move higher in the Series the more aggressive the lobe designs are in terms of ramp acceleration, opening and closing rates. As the lobe designs increase in acceleration rates, the higher the demand on springs, lifters, pushrods, and rocker arms! These performance and race series lobes demand quality valvetrain components. It is imperative that you take the time to verify that you have proper rocker arm geometry, adequate valve springs to match the lift and RPM usage, premium heavy duty pushrods, and most importantly that you accurately measure plunger depth in your hydraulic roller lifter to insure the correct pushrod length to achieve maximum horsepower and torque from your custom hydraulic roller LS camshaft. 1. XTreme RPM Series
Originally designed for the LS Catherdal Port style heads, these lobe designs provide excellent low end torque and the ability to produce increased horsepower in high RPM applications when required. A perfect match for unported stock heads and combinations where valve lift is a primary limitation due to piston-to-valve clearance, class rules, valvetrain limitations, and/or concerns for long-term durability of the valvetrain. The lower duration designs (below 228° @ 0.050”) are excellent choices for pick-up, 4X4’s, and applications seeking improved low-end torque over the factory camshaft. These lobes are most commonly matched to the beehive performance valve springs in use today. 2. LXL Series
The LXL series is based off the Comp Cams LSL profiles but are optimized with lower acceleration rates and softer closing ramps for less valve train noise and better stability with the high ratio LS rocker arms. Great choice for street/strip applications and engines that see a lot of highway driving with the occasional weekend at the autocross or drag strip.  For cathedral style LS heads, Comp recommends using this lobe on the exhaust and an LSL lobe on the intake when using the stock 1.7 rocker ratio. For applications using 1.8 or higher ratios or LS7 style heads, Comp recommends using this series on both the intake and exhaust lobes for applications that demand a quiet valvetrain and proven power increases. These lobe designs provide excellent torque and valvetrain durability for road race, street/strip, and endurance applications. 3. HUC Series
The HUC Series Hydraulic Rollers have very smooth ramp designs intended for high RPM usage and/or LS cylinder heads that do not have lightweight valves. If you have a pair of LS cylinder heads with upgraded aftermarket stainless steel standard weight valves and are trying to have a net valve lift of more than 0.600” lift, then this is an excellent choice for a custom camshaft that will aid you in maintaining valvetrain stability throughout the entire RPM range. These lobes are proven performers for road race, marine and other endurance applications where sustained high RPM’s engine speeds require a stable valve train for durability purposes. 4. LSL Series Lobes
Developed from Comp Cams latest drag racing profiles, these lobe profiles have aggressive ramp speed and acceleration. There unique ramps improve stability even with the high acceleration rates off of the seat.  The high lift designs work great with all ported Stock OEM LS heads, the new high performance aftermarket castings and with the rectangular port LS cylinder heads by providing excellent area above 0.500-inch valve lift.  The aggressive lift numbers require premium valvetrain components to insure maximum performance and durability. Lightweight valves are highly recommended! 5. XTreme RPR Series
Derived from the RPM Series, this lobe design uses a slightly more aggressive ramp design on the closing side to help build cylinder pressure and/or decrease overlap. Normally used in special applications that require these unique closing rates -- can be used on either the exhaust or intake lobes.  Please consult with the Scoggin Dickey Parts Professionals to make certain you have the correct valve spring and valvetrain components to match your custom cam selection.

 

6. XE-R XTreme Energy Series
Very aggressive ramp rates for street and street/strip applications that may require more lift than the RPM Series and those looking for lobe designs to meet increased power to match engine component upgrades. Requires premium valvetrain components for the increased acceleration rates. Please consult with the SDPC Professionals to make certain you have the correct valve spring and valvetrain components to match your custom cam selection.

 

7. EHI and EHX Series Lobes
Extremely aggressive ramp designs to take advantage of ported heads and high lift applications. The EHI (intake lobe designs) and EHX (exhaust lobe designs) lobes were specifically developed by Competition Cams for the higher rocker ratios seen with the LS Series engines and applications using aftermarket rocker systems with even higher rocker ratios than the OEM rockers. These lobes are intended for race applications that may see some street use or for other special applications! The ramp designs have their primary emphasis on maximum performance. Note: these lobe designs will produce a “noisy” style valvetrain due to their aggressive ramp rates. 8. LSK Series
Top of the line for aggressive race-style lobes in your LS engine! Developed from the latest race designs, the lobe patterns are very hard on valvetrain components and not recommended for street applications. It is imperative that you have taken every precaution to insure that you have proper rocker arm geometry, adequate valve springs to match the lift and vehicle usage, premium heavy duty pushrods, and rocker arms designed for high lift and extreme loads. Most commonly used on CNC ported heads with high lift and high flow characteristics.
